What exactly is a Funeral?

Background dividing line 1

As a rule, we understand a FUNERAL the Burial in the Ground of a corpse in a coffin. In contrast to the Cremation the mortal remains are not cremated. The organisation of the funeral service/celebration of life is usually based on traditional customs. However, it is not bound to a particular religion and can also be secular or omitted at the request of the relatives. According to German law, burial in the ground is only permitted in cemeteries. Anonymous burials are also possible in Germany.

How does a funeral?

Background dividing line 1

Cemeteries are compulsory in Germany. This means that a coffin may only be buried in the designated areas. The next of kin must first make the basic decision between an elective grave and a row grave. A row grave is a single grave, an elective grave can also be used as a family grave. The care of the grave is carried out at cemeteries by the gardeners there. However, relatives can of course also take on this task. For many surviving relatives, it is a great comfort to be close to their loved one even after death by regularly tending the grave.

What it costs a funeral?
